The future of Mason Mount at Chelsea remains uncertain for the time being. The London Blues haven’t been able to persuade him to sign a new contract, and his current one expires next year. Several clubs, both in the Premier League and abroad, are aware of the situation and are interested in his services.
Only two months ago, reports from a number of reasonably reliable journalists claimed Liverpool were leading the race for the services of the 24-year-old England international, but now, David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Mount actually prefers Manchester United as his destination, and other suitors have been made aware of that.
Despite the recent claim of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, it seems his team’s almost certain failure to qualify for the Champions League has taken its toll.
There is still a long way to, of course. Chelsea are yet to open the door for Mount to leave, with incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino keen to have this player in his ranks next season. A potential price of the transfer still hasn’t been revealed, but it will influence United’s desire to get it done.
