(GSM) – Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has defended Cristiano Ronaldo after the latter failed to shine at the 2010 World Cup. Mourinho, who will be coaching Ronaldo at Santiago Bernabeu next season, said the world’s most expensive player should be blamed for Portugal’s World Cup exit.

Ronaldo could not prevent his Portugal side from crashing out of the World Cup at the hands of a confident Spain side in the second round.

With Portugal sent packing, Ronaldo said he was left a “broken man”. However, Mourinho has hinted that Ronaldo is not solely responsible for Portugal’s exit.

“I will not allow all the responsibilities of the team to fall on Ronaldo,” he told Marca.

“In my teams, when we win, we all win, and when we lose, I lose – so Ronaldo can relax and enjoy his holidays.”
