According to the Guardian, Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho believes he has “unfinished business” in the Premier League, and he’s interested in taking over at Newcastle in case Eddie Howe leaves. Apparently, he has chosen the Magpies as his best chance to return to the English top flight, having had spells with Chelsea (twice), Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Mourinho’s unhappiness with football in Turkey is a well-known fact, after his public rant against it in the aftermath of Fenerbahce’s recent triumph over Trabzonspor. He has connections with the owners of Newcastle, and he’s asked to be kept in the loop regarding any potential developments over Howe leaving.
Howe’s job is not under threat at the moment, his potential worries being relieved by important victories over Chelsea and Arsenal, but the club’s owners want their team competing in the Champions League every season, and another seventh-place finish, like last season, is unlikely to be tolerated.
