Jose Mourinho says he is prepared to help Portugal in the next two qualifiers, provided Real Madrid give him the all-clear.
Jose Mourinho admits he had a meeting with Portuguese Football Federation president, Gilberto Madail.
“The Portuguese Football Federation president called me to propose that I take charge of the national team and I have informed Real of that meeting. I was asked to help the national team in the next two games, which are crucial,” said Mourinho.
The tactician says he just couldn’t say no to Portugal.
“I didn’t tell him (Madail) no because it wouldn’t sit well with me and because of my pride, being Portuguese. But I can’t say yes because I am the coach of Real Madrid.
“I have a job that I am in love with, (and a contract) which is for the next four years. I left it up to him to try and persuade Real Madrid about this decision and leave me out of the conversations and decisions.”
