(GSM) – Real Madrid manager José Mourinho is keen to see defender Pepe commit his future to the Santiago Bernabéu club in the coming weeks.
The Portuguese boss believes his 27-year-old compatriot remains a key asset to his team.
Pepe’s current deal expires in 2012 and Madrid are willing to offer him a three-year extension to fend off interest from his reported suitors Chelsea and Barcelona.
He said: “Real Madrid are trying not to lose, and Pepe cannot be lost by Real Madrid.
“The club know. In a few weeks I will fix everything and Pepe will stay here.”
