Mourinho key in Reguilon’s Spurs move

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Sergio Reguilon has revealed that Jose Mourinho was the key ingredient in his decision to swap Real Madrid with Tottenham Hotspur, as he joined Gareth Bale on his return journey to north London.

The 23-year-old played a fantastic season on loan at Sevilla last term, helping the Andalusian club win the Europa League and qualify for this season’s Champions League. What’s more, he was voted the best left-back in La Liga. Nonetheless, with Ferland Mendy and Marcelo fulfilling Zinedine Zidane’s needs on Real’s left defensive flank, the time had come for Reguilon to move on. That, coupled with his excellent performances for Sevilla, was the reason why he wasn’t short of offers. Chelsea were reportedly very keen on his services before they turned to Ben Chilwell.

However, Reguilon joined Spurs for a reported fee of €30m. He said he remembers Mourinho’s days at Real, but he was very young at the time and hadn’t met him in person until this summer. Nonetheless, he and his family were big supporters of the Portuguese back then.
