Mourinho not expecting major summer spending spree

Chelsea F.C. boss Jose Mourinho is not expecting to make any wholesale changes to his current squad when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.

Chelsea F.C. boss Jose Mourinho is not expecting to make any wholesale changes to his current squad when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.

The Blues brought in Juan Cuadrado from ACF Fiorentina in January, a deal which essentially sanctioned the sale of André Schürrle to VfL Wolfsburg, and have recently been linked with a big-money for Juventus star midfielder Paul Pogba.

But the Portuguese has insisted he need only make minor changes to his squad, and understandably so, as Chelsea currently sit three points clear of second-placed Manchester City atop the English Premier League table with two games in hand.

“Our transfer policy doesn’t need a lot of funds, because we don’t need a lot of things. We like our squad, we like our players and with a couple of exceptions we have a young squad,” Mourinho said.

“And once more, I think our transfer policy will be nice and quiet and will also be a consequence of the players we sell and the funds we make from the players we sell.

“I think we are getting great credibility from the players we sell, because we sell good players.

“So let’s see what happens. But at this moment if you ask me am I happy with the players I have here, I am happy with the squad I have.

“If you ask me ‘you say zero movement in and out’, I say I don’t believe because we always want to improve and there are always a couple of changes to be made. But nothing really important. I am not worried about funds because they are fine.”

The Special One went on to play down any interest in signing Pogba from Juve, maintaining he has a ‘good group’ of midfielders–including the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic, Ramires and Ruben Loftus-Cheek–at his disposal.

“I don’t think about Pogba or other players. The only thing I can tell you is we look at our midfield players. And between Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas, Ramires, Rueben, Mikel is injured – we have a good group and I believe a lot in Rueben.

“Next season the squad will be made in a way that Reuben will not be a number, he will compete for a position.”

Chelsea, who are scheduled to take on Hull City at the KC Stadium on Sunday, are best-priced at 1/10 to win the Premier League.

Meanwhile, City and Arsenal are priced at 11/1 and 18/1, respectively.
