(GSM) – Real Madrid manager José Mourinho claims he is not interested in succeeding Fabio Capello as England manager, insisting that the post should go to an Englishman.
Mourinho, 47, has long been tipped to return to management in England enjoying an impressive stint at Chelsea.
However, the Portuguese tactician maintains he does not want the England hot seat, which is set to be vacated once Capello retires after Euro 2012.
“I think national teams are: England for the English and Portugal for the Portuguese,” said Mourinho in an interview with the BBC.
Mourinho has publicly declared his interest in taking charge of the Portuguese national team one day, but affirms that he is still not ready to move from club to international team management.
“I will one day play against England with my Portugal, but Portugal has to wait a long time.”
The former Porto, Internazionale and Chelsea boss was asked to coach Portugal in two crucial Euro 2012 qualifiers. And though he first appeared interested in the temporary post, Real Madrid have apparently blocked his move.
