Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has revealed that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is set to check on his long-term target Nemanja Matic in midweek.
The 25-year-old returns to the international fold following a year-long exile, as Serbia take on fierce rivals Croatia on Friday.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has requested tickets for the aforementioned match, as he is expected to make another check on the Benfica hotshot.
Serbia Under-19 manager and personal friend of the Portuguese coach, Ljubinko Drulovic has confirmed the rumours.
“It is another reason for the players to show what they are worth. Jose Mourinho is special and he always brings something different,” Drulovic explained to O Jogo.
Nemanja Matic, who was already on the books of Chelsea, arrived at Benfica in a deal taking David Luiz to Stamford Bridge, but the Blues officials quickly lived to regret their decision to cash in on the Serbian.
During the two years at Estadio da Luz, Matic developed into one of world’s best holding midfielders and Jose Mourinho has been trying to lure him back to London ever since he took over the reigns earlier this summer.
