Mourinho slams Real fixture

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has threatened to drop Iker Casillas to assist Barcelona on their way to the La Liga title.

Real’s clash against city rivals Atletico Madrid next week would see the first-choice goalkeeper Casillas left out of the squad, if the Portuguese coach’s word is anything to go by.

“Iker won’t be with us because he won’t be in the squad against Atletico (next weekend). If they (Barcelona) want to end the league before time, I might as well make it easy for them,” Mourinho said.

Real will be without stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Ricardo Carvalho for their clash with Hercules on Saturday, with the former Manchester United attacker still recovering from injury while the ex-Chelsea defender is being rested for their upcoming Champions League clash next week at home to Lyon on Wednesday.

Mourinho also vented his frustrations with his side’s schedule, as Real are forced to back up after their midweek Champions League match with two fewer days’ rest between matches than title rivals Barcelona were given this week after their victory over Arsenal.

“We are in a situation where as soon as we drop a point we lose the championship, although not mathematically so. I am not stupid and I know this,” he said.

“There is a team that played in the Champions League on Tuesday and have no game in the league until the following Sunday (Barca this week), while another one is forced to play in Europe on Wednesday and then Saturday in the league (Real next week).”
