Jose Mourinho will make Michael Essien his first signing for Internazionale according to The Sun newspaper and The Sun also claim it is a matter of when Mourinho joins Inter Milan, not if, as they reveal that Mourinho will be confirmed as manager of the Serie A champions tommorow.
The Portuguese manager is reportedly being handed a £100 million transfer budget from owner Massimo Moratti in order to turn Inter Milan into European champions for the first time since 1965.
Chelsea are likely to put up a strong fight for the Ghanaian star, however it is believed that Essien would love to join his former boss at the San Siro.
Essien, 25, joined Chelsea for a reported fee of £24 million from French club Lyon in 2006 and was bought by Jose Mourinho.
Since joining the club Essien has become a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge and was even voted Chelsea Player of the Year in 2007 by the fans.
The Sun also claims that after Mourinho has brought Essien to San Siro, he will then begin his campaign to bring Chelsea star duo Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba to Italy.
Another national newspaper, The Daily Express, claims that a Chelsea source has revealed that Lampard is tempted by the prospect of working with Mourinho at the San Siro. However, Chelsea are believed to have offered Lampard a new contract which would see his wages rise to an astonishing £130,000-a-week
Inter Milan are believed to be making an official statement today involving the current managerial situation and if The Sun’s claims are true then Mourinho will then be unveiled before the public tomorrow.
