Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing Diego Godin from Inter Milan to Tottenham Hotpsur in the next transfer window, according to the Daily Express.
Spurs got one defensive worry off their backs when they convinced Toby Alderweireld to sign a new deal back in December and the experienced Belgium international is now committed to the club until the summer of 2023, while the contract of Davinson Sanchez is set to keep the Colombian in North London a year longer. However, no such luck with Jan Vertonghen, whose bond with Spurs is about to break this summer.
Mourinho wants the 34-year-old former Atletico Madrid man to come in and boost the competition for the places in the central defence, but it seems he won’t find that task easy to accomplish. Inter boss Antonio Conte, whose enmity towards Mourinho stems from his Chelsea days, is keen on keeping Godin where he is despite not giving him more than 16 Serie A appearances this season.
Godin’s contract has a year left to run, but it was expected he would be available to leave the Nerazzurri for around £7 million this summer.
