Jose Mourinho is keen for AS Roma to sign Wout Weghorst from Wolfsburg as a replacement for 36-year-old Edin Dzeko, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Dzeko’s contract is about to enter its final 12 months and it’s not likely to be extended beyond the summer of 2022. What’s more, his agent is scheduled to meet club CEO Tiago Pinto in the coming days to discuss the possibility of cutting the deal off a year early. Dzeko’s time in the Italian capital is certainly drawing to its close and Roma are already seeking to secure a suitable successor in their attacking line.
Meanwhile, 28-year-old Weghorst has so far scored 60 goals in 112 appearances for Wolfsburg. The Bundesliga side value his services at €30 million with two years left on his contract, but apparently the sum is a negotiable aspect of the proposed deal and Roma will see if they can have it reduced.
Roma are believed to have previously expressed an interest in Memphis Depay, whose contract with Olympique Lyon expires next month, but they’ve accepted that the former Manchester United forward is close to joining Barcelona.
