Moyes aims for bargain buys, again

Everton boss David Moyes is unconcerned by the prospect of another lean transfer window at Goodison Park.

Moyes attracted plaudits for leading Everton to a seventh-place finish in the English Premier League this season, despite the Toffees’ wages bill being dwarfed by that of many of their neighbours in the top 10.

The Scot expects the situation to be much the same this off-season, with financial restraints at Everton preventing him from making big signings.

But Moyes has insisted he is happy to scour for summer bargains, free transfers and last-minute deals, saying he is confident the club can do good business despite their cash-flow problems.

“I won’t be disappointed,” Moyes told the Liverpool Daily Post.

“I think it is good for the players if they see I’m trying to add quality to the squad and I think they want me to do that as well.”

“There’s not a great deal out there. There’ll be different reasons, there’ll be age, there’ll be price, contract length. There’s not massive amounts in the market.”

“As people know, every penny we spend at Everton is scrutinised by supporters because we don’t get to spend much and other clubs spend loads of it.”

However, Moyes admitted his preparations are being hampered without a definitive budget, one he expects to receive from club chairman Bill Kenwright this week.

“I want to try and be ready, but it is not easy,” Moyes said.

“But the staff have been on the road for months so when we get the nod we’re ready to give Everton a fresh look.”

“The scouts do a brilliant job at Everton, I work them hard and they have been looking at players up to a value of up to 10 to 15 million pounds but also looking at players for nothing and around the players at the 60,000-pound Seamus Coleman amount.”
