Everton manager David Moyes said on Friday he was disappointed by the Football Association’s decision to uphold Australian international Tim Cahill’s three-match suspension.

Cahill was sent-off for a tackle on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso in the 2-0 Merseyside derby defeat last weekend, a decision which Everton appealed.

“Losing Tim is a big setback because I think it was wrong,” said Moyes.

“It wasn’t a tackle that warranted a red card. There’s no doubt about that.”

Everton, struggling in the Premier League and who were knocked out of the UEFA Cup at the first round stage on Thursday, will be without Cahill for their next three league matches against Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United.
