David Moyes is ready to turn his attention to Southampton left back Luke Shaw, with Leighton Baines increasingly likely to remain at Everton, the Daily Star understands.
Baines has been identified as one of Champions main targets this summer, though new Toffee’s boss Roberto Martinez has stressed that he is keen to keep hold of the defender.
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has echoed those sentiments, jokingly insisting that he has told his former employee to not come back for the England international, meaning that 17 year old Shaw is set to be the new Manchester United manager’s next port of call.
The England under 21 international has gained rave reviews since making his Premier League debut back in November, also drawing interest from Chelsea.
Former United left back Denis Irwin, now an ambassador for the club, is sure that the club will make a move for the player.
He said: “I’ve heard a word that the new manager might have Luke Shaw at the top of his list.
The teenage Southampton full-back is the latest in a long of prodigies from that club’s excellent youth system.”
