David Moyes has played down speculation that Wayne Rooney is set to leave the club during his first press conference as Manchester United manager.
The 27 year old has been linked with moves to a number of clubs across Europe, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain all reportedly interested in securing his services.
However, the 50 year old stated categorically that the England international is not for sale, before saying that he is looking forward to working with him once again.
Moyes went on to say that he is confident that Rooney can get the goals which will see him become the club’s all time goalscorer, a record currently held by Sir Bobby Charlton.
Rooney is fourth on list with 197 goals, behind Jack Rowley, Dennis Law and Charlton, who leads the way with 249.
Meanwhile, Moyes refused to be drawn on reports that the club will make a move for former player Cristiano Ronaldo.
He said: “I will not speak about players that are contracted to other clubs, but this club is always interested in the best players”.
