The Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) will renew the contract of national team coach, Dutchman Mart Nooij, following rumours he had been axed earlier this year, state media reported Thursday.

Nooij will sign a new contract to coach the Mozambican Mambas on Friday in Maputo, said Noticias newspaper.

Nooij’s future with the ‘Mambas’ was in danger after the team failed to progress to the quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in January.

At the time, Feizal Sidat, president of the FMF, said: “We are going to remodel our coaching team. The results did not match expectations.”

He later said he did not necessarily mean Nooij would be fired.

Noticias reported that Nooij’s salary was the disputed factor, with the coach demanding an increase of his monthly paycheck from 15,000 dollars to 23,000 dollars.

The parties finally agreed on 20,000 dollars (15,000 euros), the newspaper said.
