Muamba improvement continues

Bolton boss Owen Coyle says Fabrice Muamba is making steady progress after suffering a cardiac arrest in an FA Cup match against Tottenham.

The England under-21 international is recovering at a specialist medical institute after his heart stopped for over an hour during the abandoned game earlier this month.

Coyle has been a regular visitor at Muamba’s bedside with his condition, while now not as bad as first feared, still classified as serious.

“He continues to get better, but (is) remaining in intensive care,” Coyle told Sky Sports News.

“We have always had representation at the hospital and that will continue because it’s important that we know he is getting better, which he is.

“When we went the other day and managed to see him, we could see the continued improvement and that all bodes well.”

Coyle also praised the media and wider public for their response to the incident.

“I also have to say thank you to the press, the media, for how they have conducted themselves and the way they have given Fabrice and his family that privacy that’s been required,” he said.

“Again, now is the time when they need a little bit more time and space for Fabrice’s continued recovery, for him and the family.

“The well wishes have been really supportive and helped him no end and I think he has taken great strength from that. That will help in his continued fight to recover.”
