Muller: Bayern not at their best

Thomas Muller believes Bayern Munich have some way to go before they reach their full potential.

The German and European champions are top of the Bundesliga and have not lost a competitive fixture since a DFB Super Cup defeat to Borussia Dortmund in July.

Pep Guardiola’s side also booked their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Viktoria Plzen.

However, Muller is of the opinion that he and his team-mates have yet to show their best form.

Asked by the Bundesliga website why Bayern have failed to hit top gear, he responded: “It’s really difficult to say. We’re currently lacking the ease of play.

“Games aren’t being handed to us on a silver platter, instead we’re having to dig deep every time.

“Nowadays in modern football that (is) always necessary, but we’re hoping to have a match again sometime soon where we really hit our stride.”

Guardiola has seen his side concede first in their last three Bundesliga matches, although the holders have fought back to win on each occasion.

Muller believes preparation and hard work will ensure Bayern push on in the league, starting with the visit of Augsburg on Saturday.

“We’ve got to think about everything so that we can get things going again,” he continued.

“The expectations are of course still very high. Ultimately, though, we’ve won all four (Champions League) group games.

“We’ve got (to) work harder, continue improving our performances and then we’ll see what comes out of our game with Augsburg.”
