Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur go into tonight’s third round Carling Cup tie with both clubs saying it is a must win game.
The Premier League’s bottom two are both desperate to kick-start their season with a win in this competition.
Newcastle, without a manager, up for sale and with three straight defeats were hopeful of a good season under Kevin Keegan just a few short weeks ago.
Their captain, Michael Owen, says,
“It’s important we win. It would be great for team spirit.”
Tottenham were fancied to challenge the top four this season but sit rock bottom with just two points. Stand-in skipper Jermaine Jenas says,
“It’s a huge game but then every game is vital at the minute.”
For the losers, tonight will be a very long night.
