Unhappy about not having a place in the team, Shkodran Mustafi is set to leave Arsenal in the near future. He was close to leaving towards the end of the summer transfer window, with AS Roma reportedly considering taking him on after their negotiations with Liverpool over Dejan Lovren fell through. Juventus were linked too. Even Arsenal boss Unai Emery spoke publicly about Mustafi, implying that the German should perhaps leave. However, nothing happened and he remains an Arsenal player, with David Luiz, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Rob Holding all ahead of him in the pecking order; possibly even Calum Chambers, though he has mostly been deployed at right-back with Hector Bellerin out of action.
Mustafi spoke to German outlet Der Spiegel, confirming that there had been talks over the summer, but no option that would have suited all parties was found. The 27-year-old said he would be open too offers from the Bundesliga as well as other European leagues, as he looks to avoid a wrong move that would fail to improve his predicament, and “write a positive chapter” of his career.
