According to Fabrizio Romano, the German DFB are set to appoint Julian Nagelsmann as the new head coach of their men’s national team.
Having made his breakthrough at Hoffenheim, Nagelsmann spent two years coaching RB Leipzig, and his exploits there eventually got him the Bayern Munich job in 2021. Thing, however, didn’t go too well for him at the Allianz Arena, and earlier this year, he was sacked. As his contract with Bayern still has time to run left, they’re still obliged to pay him wages until it expires, or he secures another coaching position with their consent.
Bayern are now apparently prepared to terminate the deal and allow Nagelsmann, still only 36, to take over as the Germany boss. Their officials recently admitted as much, claiming they wouldn’t stand in the way of the national team.
And while this may point to a kind of patriotism and sportsmanship from the Bundesliga champions, Nagelsmann’s appointment would obviously be in their interest as well, as they would be able to finally stop paying his wages.
Speaking of wages, Nagelsmann is prepared to take a reduction to get the Germany job.
