Nantes 1-1 Paris Saint-Germain: Augusto levels late on but champions remain unbeaten

Paris Saint-Germain had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Nantes on Tuesday, though the result keeps Luis Enrique’s champions on course to complete the first unbeaten season in Ligue 1 history.

In a tepid first half, Nantes were content to sit back and play on the counter, but Vitinha struck a low half-volley off a Lee Kang-in pass to put PSG ahead after 33 minutes.

Nantes were more aggressive after the break as Jean-Charles Castelletto drew a fine save from PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on the hour mark.

Douglas Augusto finally found the equaliser seven minutes from time with a great shot from the edge of the box, following a powerful run from Matthis Abline.

Goncalo Ramos went agonisingly close to netting a winner for the visitors, but his stoppage-time header hit the crossbar as Nantes claimed a crucial point in the battle to survive.

They are now four points clear of Le Havre, who occupy the final place in the relegation zone, with four games remaining.

PSG, who wrapped up the title earlier this month, hold a 23-point advantage over second-placed Marseille and are closing in on an invincible campaign.

Data debrief: PSG make away-day history

Though PSG could not hold on for victory, with 20 of the 28 goals they have conceded in Ligue 1 this season now coming in the second half, they did make history.

They are now unbeaten in 39 away games in Ligue 1, winning 30 and drawing nine. Their last defeat on the road predates Luis Enrique’s reign, coming at Monaco in February 2023 (3-1).

This is the longest unbeaten away run in the history of Europe’s top five leagues, having surpassed the 38-match streak AC Milan put together between 1991 and 1993.

However, Nantes have avoided defeat against PSG in both matches of a Ligue 1 season for the first time since 2002-03 (two draws).

That is despite PSG completing 1,717 passes across those two matches (935 at home, 782 away), the highest such total in Ligue 1 since Opta data collection began in 2006-07.
