Napoli have reached an agreement with Sampdoria to sign Italian defender Vasco Regini, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 25-year-old joins the Azzurri on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy for €2 million.
Even if they expressed interest in Federico Barba, Napoli ultimately opted for another former Empoli defender who had been coached by current Azzurri boss Maurizio Sarri.
Capable of operating at left-back or centre-back, Regini should provide an extra option for the talented tactician in the final stretch of the season, as the San Paolo outfit hope to end a 26-year wait for a league trophy.
The former Italy Under-21 international has so far represented Cesena, Sampdoria, Foggia and Empoli, and no doubts that a move to Napoli is an important step in his career.
Since returning to Sampdoria from Empoli, Regini featured in 71 league matches, earning no fewer than 15 yellow cards in the process.
