Napoli agree to sign Chilean wonderkid

Napoli have won the race to sign Chilean wonderkid Eduardo Vargas, Universidad de Chile owner has revealed.

The 22-year-old forward, who is likened to Lionel Messi, was courted by Chelsea, Inter and Manchester City, among other clubs, but he eventually chose Napoli.

“We reached an agreement tonight,” Universidad owner Carlos Herrer told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“It is an honour to sell Vargas to the same club that Diego ArmandoMaradona played for. He is going to a side where he’ll have a great shop window and will not stay with us for the Copa Libertadores.

“The contracts have not yet been signed, but they will be before Monday.”

The player himself also confirmed that he was joining the Azurri.

“Napoli await me,” Vargas told Radio Cooperativa. “I send an embrace to all the Universidad de Chile fans, but I am very happy to be a new Azzurri player.

“They are a great Italian side and I’m sure I’ll do very well there. I already know Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi, while I am very happy that the negotiations concluded so quickly.”
