Portuguese media outlet O Jogo has learned that Napoli and Sunderland are among clubs showing interest in Benfica full-back Maxi Pereira.
The experienced defender has a contract until the end of the season at Estadio da Luz, and while he is not against staying with the Eagles, the Uruguayan would consider any serious offer from abroad.
According to O Jogo, Pereira has a verbal agreement on a new two-year deal with Benfica, but he does not want to extend his contract just yet in case he receives an offer he cannot refuse from one of the interested sides.
And while Roma’s interest is no secret, the latest reports suggest Napoli and Sunderland have joined the race as well.
The Azzurri expect to stay without both Christian Maggio and Giandomenico Mesto, and they want someone who can slot straight into the starting line-up.
On the other hand, Sunderland will probably come forward with an official proposal if they secure Premiership survival.
