Daily Mirror is reporting that Napoli and Atletico Madrid are locked in the battle to sign Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina on permanent deal.
The Spaniard is currently enjoying a loan spell with the Azzurri, and there is every chance he won’t be returning to Anfield ever again.
He is determined to leave the Reds in the wake of Brendan Rodgers’ latest comments and is set to take advantage of the £4.5 million release clause.
Having impressed at Stadio San Paolo this season, Reina is expected to be signed by Napoli on permanent deal, but Atletico Madrid are reportedly looking to spoil their plans.
Namely, los Colchoneros could stay without first choice keeper Thibaut Courtois and they see the Spaniard as a great replacement for the Belgian.
The 31-year-old footballer has made a total of 20 Serie A appearances for Napoli, while featuring in five Champions League fixtures and two Europa League games.
