Napoli close on Agger, N’Koulou

Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Napoli are closing in on Daniel Agger and Nicolas N’Koulou.

The Azzurri have made signing a high-profile centre-back their priority in the January window and they are working simultaneously on both targets.

Rafael Benitez wants to get reunited with his former player Daniel Agger, who has lost his place in the starting line-up at Anfield.

Liverpool were initially requesting €16 million for the Danish defender, but they have since lowered their demands.

Meanwhile, the Azzurri are also stepping up their efforts to sign Nicolas N’Koulou from Marseille, who looks a more realistic target given that OM are in difficult financial situation and may need to cash in on their star player.

Despite trailing Serie A leaders Juventus by 10 points, Napoli hope to revive their title bid in the second part of the season, but odds of 14/1 offered on Azzurri to win the Serie A trophy are enough to suggest they face an uphill task.
