Napoli are working hard on the deal that would see Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano move to Stadio San Paolo, according to former Azzurri masseur Salvatore Carmando.
It is no secret the Serie A side have been hot on the trail of the Argentina international, but they are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Barcelona.
Former Napoli masseur Salvatore Carmando, however, claims that everything will depend on the player’s desire to move to Stadio San Paolo.
“The club needs to buy a central defensive figure of international standing,” Carmando told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.
“According to what Diego Maradona told me during a dinner at the Hotel Eden in Rome, it seems as if the president has already chosen Mascherano.
“The deal is not complete with Barcelona yet, but negotiations have been going on for a long time. For now they are just waiting for the player’s final decision.”
Even if Barcelona squad are set to undergo major changes in the summer, the club officials are satisfied with Mascherano’s contribution and they will only cash in on him in case of a very good offer.
Despite arriving at Camp Nou as one of world’s best holding midfielders, the 29-year-old has mostly been used in the heart of defence over the past four years, making a total of 100 La Liga appearances for the Catalans.
