Italian TV station Mediaset is reporting that Napoli are stepping up their efforts to sign French midfielder Blaise Matuidi from Paris Saint-Germain.
Even though he is regarded a key player for the Saints, the France international is not even close to signing a new deal at Parc des Princes, and it is important to note his current contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
This has led to speculations linking the 26-year-old with Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona, although it appears Napoli are leading the chase at the moment.
Mediaset has suggested that the Azzurri sporting director Riccardo Bigon is currently in Paris as he is set to offer the player a lucrative long-term contract.
Matuidi will be free to negotiate a Bosman deal with interested sides from 1st January, but Napoli are keen to ensure they are in pole position.
The Azzurri currently sit four points adrift of Serie A leaders Roma, and are priced at 9/2 for the league trophy.
