Serie A giants Napoli have confirmed they are interested in signing Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons.
After the Azzurri president Aurelio De Laurentiis had revealed that they would be signing up to three high-profile players in January, media reports in Italy suggested the France international was one of the first names on the hit-list.
This has proved to be a credible information as Napoli chairman has moved to confirm reports linking his club with a move for Gonalons, while ruling out a move for Javier Mascherano.
“Gonalons? His is a profile that may be of interest to us,” De Laurentiis told Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
“Mascherano? I can rule that out. We’re not interested in him.”
Maxime Gonalons is reportedly prepared to consider an offer from Serie A having been disappointed by Lyon’s dismal start to the new campaign that has seen les Gones slip to 14th in French Ligue 1.
The proposed January shopping spree should increase Napoli’s chances of lifting the Serie A title, with the Azzuri currently priced at 4/1.
