Napoli confirm Lavezzi exit on the cards

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that star forward Ezequiel Lavezzi is likely to leave the club at the end of the season.

The Argentine striker has been paired with top Italian clubs for several months now and it looks as though he will be leaving the Azzurri at the end of the season.

The player has a €31 million release clause inserted in his contract, with clubs like Inter and Paris Saint-Germain competing for his signature.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis explains that he will let the player decide on his future at the end of the season.

“Il Pocho is a great, long live Lavezzi,” Laurentiis told reporters after the Coppa Italia victory over Juventus in Rome.

“Let him decide his future. He is now 27, he has a rescission clause in his contract and if someone offers to pay that then he will leave.”

Napoli already have a replacement for the Argentine forward, seeing that promising attacker Lorenzo Insigne is expected to return to San Paolo when his loan deal at Pescara ends in June.

Insigne enjoyed a brilliant season during a loan spell at Pescara, having scored 18 goals in 35 Serie B games.

“I like Insigne because he is a team player,” De Laurentiis added. “So what should we do? Call him back but not let him play because Lavezzi is there? Youngsters have to play…”
