Napoli defeat won’t stop City’s rise to power

Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League was a bitter blow to the Citizens chances of success in the competition.

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani scored a brace to beat the Premier League leaders

The result puts them a point behind their Italian rivals in the Group A table with a game to go.

Difficult

Manchester City face a difficult home game against group leaders Bayern, while Napoli face a trip to the group whipping boys Villarreal.

Although it seems that the boys from Naples have the easier game it’s by no means certain that the results will go the expected way.

Bayern maybe not play at full tilt with their qualification already assured and as City boss Roberto Mancini said Villarreal won’t want to finish without any points in the Champions League. It’s not cut and dry that City will go out of Europe’s elite competition.

Progress

Even if Manchester City go out of the Champions League this season it won’t stop the seemingly unstoppable juggernaut. Manchester City are absolutely flying in the Premier League and are currently five points clear of second place Manchester United.

This season has saw the expensive individuals become a fantastic team. Not really considered challengers for the Premier League title this season they have taken the English top flight by storm this season.

Money

And if something does go wrong for Manchester City this season and they don’t win the Premier League, then the club is lucky enough to have owners who are willing to back their manager with more money.

They have the luxury of being able to go out and improve their squad and strengthen the teams weaknesses. Not only the squad but also replace the manager. However I think Roberto Mancini is doing a good job.

Management

When City boss Roberto Mancini arrived at Manchester City his reputation for man-management wasn’t the best. In fact in Italian he was considered slightly aloft and distanced himself  from his players.

However, the Manchester City squad is full of big players with big egos. Some people have criticised him for the way he has dealt with the Carlos Tevez saga. People have said he struggled with Tevez because of his lack of man-management skills.

I have never been the biggest fan of Mancini but I applauded him in the fact that he told the media that the Argentinian striker would never play for the club again. Tevez has never played for City again and I certainly respect Mancini far more for sticking to his guns.

I believe that Mancini has managed to handle the big egos in his squad superbly. He is starting to get the best out of one of the most crazy characters in football, Mario Balotelli. The talented youngster seems to respond to the former-Inter boss.

Start

This season is a learning curve for Manchester City. It’s their first season in the modern day European Cup and they are bound to need time to adjust to the competition. Not only are the team getting used to the Champions League, the whole club needs time to adjust to being at the top of the football tree.

This season is just the start for Manchester City. For better or worse Manchester City are trying to build a successful team. Whether fans of other clubs like it or not Manchester City will in the next few years will probably become the dominant force in English force.

Last nights result may set that dominance back slightly but it’s not going to stop Manchester City getting what they want. It looks like Manchester City are here to stay.

Will last nights result change the course of the Manchester City revolution?

Hi Cloud, unfortunately Manchester City and the likes will find a way around the Financial Fair Play. I didn’t mean it too sound biased.

.. i don’t know david, but it seems that you give a solution to every problem on City. yes, fact is they are in front of United by 5 points, but the season is still long. And yes, maybe, just maybe, mancini will get the boot at the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean that the next coach will be a success. i’m sorry that i mistook your optimism with being biased. but for City to be become a powerhouse in Europe? I think not, they still have the FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY to wrestle with.
