Napoli eyeing Nemanja Matic
Sky Sport Italia understands that Napoli have expressed their interest in signing Benfica hotshot Nemanja Matic.
It is no secret the Azzurri are looking to sign a central midfielder in January and they have so far been linked with Maxime Gonalons, Javier Mascherano and Fernando.
Nevertheless, Sky Sport Italia has suggested that the Serie A side have switched their attention to Benfica’s Nemanja Matic.
According to the same source, the Azzurri have contacted Benfica president Luis Felipe Viera with a view of submitting a €30 million proposal for the highly rated midfielder.
Nemanja Matic has developed into one of Europe’s top central midfielders during his time at Estadio da Luz and he has been widely linked with a return to Chelsea.
The 25-year-old recently ended his international exile and in turn put in excellent showings for Serbia in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Croatia and FYR Macedonia.
Dani Alves set for Barcelona stay
Catalan daily newspaper Sport has learned that Barcelona full-back Daniel Alves is likely to remain at Camp Nou for the foreseeable future.
The Brazilian, who has a contract until June 2015, has been linked with a move away from the club as the Catalans were seemingly reluctant to negotiate a contract renewal.
However, Sport has revealed that the defender’s current deal will be automatically extended for another season if Alves plays a certain number of games during the 2014/2015 campaign.
This is obviously the reason why the club officials are not worried by the transfer talk, seeing that all interested clubs will have to delve deep into their pockets if they are to lure the Brazilian away from Camp Nou.
And given that Alves appears to be perfectly happy with his status at the club, chances are that he won’t be leaving Barcelona any time soon.
The Catalans appear to be on course to yet another league title, with Gerardo Martino’s side priced at 1/3 to defend the La Liga trophy.
Marveaux nears Newcastle exit
Newcastle midfielder Sylvain Marveaux seems to be on the verge of leaving St James’ Park, according to The Journal.
The Frenchman is currently sidelined through injury and is expected to resume full training in the coming days, but he is reportedly concerned by the lack of first team opportunities.
Despite showing a great deal of potential, the 27-year-old never quite managed to nail down a regular starting berth at St James’ Park and it looks as though he is no longer prepared to wait for his chance.
After starting just 13 Premier League games in almost two and a half years at the club, Marveaux is hoping to leave the Magpies in the winter transfer window.
The Journal understands Spartak Moscow and Sochaux are prepared to offer the midfielder an escape route from England, although Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is not too keen on selling Marveaux.
He still holds the player in high regard and will do everything in his power to prevent the Frenchman from leaving in January.
