Napoli are stepping up their efforts to sign Benfica full-back Alex Grimaldo, according to Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato.
The 21-year-old has managed to catch the eye of top European clubs despite only making 10 league appearances since joining from Barcelona in January 2016.
Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United are just some of his suitors, but it was Napoli who made the first concrete moves.
Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato claims that the Azzurri have met with Benfica officials and Grimaldo’s representatives to discuss a summer switch to Stadio San Paolo.
“Few days ago, there was a meeting between Napoli, Benfica and Grimaldo’s agents, where they were informed that the player has a €60 million release clause,” Venerato told Radio Crc.
It is believed that the Eagles would consider offers in the region of €40 million and this could easily prove one of the best ever deals in club’s history considering they only paid €1.5 million for the left-back a year ago.
Alex Grimaldo has so far scored 2 goals in 10 league appearances for Benfica, while featuring in four Champions League matches.
