Serie A giants Napoli are considering a summer bid for Benfica full-back Maxi Pereira, a businessman close to the club has revealed.
The Azzurri are in the market for right-sided defenders seeing as both Christian Maggio and Giandomenico Mesto will be out of contract in the summer.
And they have been recently linked with Maxi Pereira, another player whose deal is due to expire at the end of the season.
Napoli’s interest in the player has now been confirmed by Gianfranco Cicchetti, who is closely connected to the Serie A side.
“Napoli is following Maxi Pereira,” Cicchetti confessed to Radio Crc.
Even though he is not against staying with Benfica beyond the summer, the Uruguayan has yet to make a decision on his future and it is clear he is evaluating all options at the moment.
Pereira has also been linked with AS Roma, Sunderland and Liverpool, as the 30-year-old is clearly held in high regard by Europe’s top sides.
