Napoli make Clyne contact

Napoli have contacted Liverpool over the possibility of signing Nathaniel Clyne this summer, according to Liverpool Echo.

When he arrived at Anfield from Southampton back in 2015, Clyne quickly became an important part of the Liverpool defence, in those days often described as the most consistent player in the team. However, injury problems kept him out for most of the 2017/18 season, and young Trent Alexander-Arnold took his chance and imposed himself strongly for the right-back spot in the starting XI. With Joe Gomez perfectly capable of deputizing on the right defensive flank too, Clyne soon became surplus to requirements and spent the second half of this season on loan at Bournemouth.

While Jurgen Klopp is looking to “prune” his squad a bit, Napoli are looking to bolster their defensive options and are looking at Clyne, whose quality remains undoubted, to provide what they need. To get the deal done, they will have to part with a reasonable sum of £15 million.
