Getafe president Angel Torres has suffered serious embarrassment after telling Radio Marca that his Napoli counterpart, Aurelio De Laurentiis, had been calling him ‘every three days’ to discuss potential transfers of various players. The name of Marc Cucurella was supposed to have been one of those on the agenda of the alleged talks.
The 21-year-old left-back joined Getafe from Barcelona on a season-long loan last year with an option to buy, and Getafe have already triggered their option, making Cucurella their full-time employee, for €2 million.
However, Napoli completely destroyed Torres’s claims with a single tweet from their official Twitter account:
È una bufala, una Fake News. De Laurentiis non sa nemmeno chi sia il Presidente del Getafe e non ha mai parlato con i suoi collaboratori di questo Cucurella. #ForzaNapoliSempre
— Official SSC Napoli (@sscnapoli) May 8, 2020
The tweet reads: “It’s a hoax, a Fake News. De Laurentiis does not even know who the President of Getafe is and has never spoken with his associates about this Cucurella.”
Cucurella has been a regular started for Getafe this season, racking up a total of 34 appearances in all competition before football was brought to a halt. It remains rather unclear why the club’s president would try to spread a rumour about Napoli being interested in him.
