Napoli are considering a move for Porto star Nicolas Otamendi as they continue the search for a high-profile defender, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
The Azzurri have quickly reinvested the money earned from the sale of Edinson Cavani, with Gonzalo Higuain, Jose Callejon, Pepe Reina and Raul Albiol arriving at Stadio San Paolo among others.
However, new manager Rafa Benitez is still determined to sign another forward and central defender and has in turn expressed his interest in Nicolas Otamendi.
Porto defender has two years left on his deal at Estadio do Dragao and a €30 million release clause, and it would appear as though the Dragons will only let him leave if a club meet the buy-out clause.
Atletico Madrid are also believed to be keen on the defender who arrived at FC Porto for mere €4 million back in 2010. Otamendi, 25, has since made 64 Primeira Liga appearances and scored 6 goals.
