Serie A side Napoli have rekindled interest in Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, the Northern Echo has learned.
Partenopei have been linked with a move for Newcastle United forward during the summer window and have already begun negotiations over the possible summer deal with the Magpies.
With Rafa Benitez keen on Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina, the Italian outfit are hoping any summer business between the two sides could possibly involve the transfer of Aleksandar Mitrovic as well.
The 22-year-old striker made just 11 Championship starts at Newcastle last season, losing his starting berth to Dwight Gayle who remains a key part of Rafa Benitez’s plans for the forthcoming Premier League season.
The Spanish tactician is no longer counting on Aleksandar Mitrovic who could be allowed to leave during summer, but only if the price is right. Magpies are believed to be hoping to recoup all of their money invested in former Anderlecht striker who cost £13 million two years ago.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Besiktas have also expressed interest in Serbian star.
