Napoli winger Dries Mertens admits he is tempted by the prospect of moving to English Premier League.
The highly rated footballer has been mentioned as a target for some top European clubs, but it would appear as the Azzurri are not prepared to let him leave just yet.
Despite the fact that Mertens has three more years left on his contract, Napoli plan to offer him a new deal, but the 28-year-old seems to have other plans.
Namely, the Belgium hotshot admits that he wants to test his skills in English Premier League, albeit suggesting that he would honour his contract with the Azzurri.
“Last week we talked about the renewal, it’s nice to know that the club is counting on you,” he said to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.
“I’m thinking about what I want, the Premier League would be a good challenge. I have a contract until 2018, but maybe other options will appear then.”
Dries Mertens joined Napoli from PSV Eindhoven two years ago and he has since managed 17 goals in 66 Serie A appearances.
The winger featured in seven of Belgium’s eight Euro 2016 qualifiers, scoring two goals in the process to help the Red Devils come on the brink of securing a qualifying berth.
