Things haven’t been going well for Napoli this season, at least when it comes to the domestic stage, and they seem to have gone from bad to worse in the last few days. As reported by AS, Lorenzo Insigne, Kalidou Koulibaly and Dries Mertens, as well as head coach Carlo Ancelotti, are all contemplating their futures and looking thoughtfully towards the exit door.
Napoli have been the only proper challenge to Serie A champions Juventus for several years, but this time around they already seem to be out of the race, with a 13-point deficit after 12 rounds. Further more, recent rifts between the squad, the manager and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, which ignited when the team ignored a club order involving match preparations, made the matters worse.
The contracts of Mertens and Jose Callejon expire in the summer and the possibility of renewal is very remote at the moment, so they could be put up for sale in January for the club to avoid losing them for free. Neither them, nor Insigne, nor Koulibaly, should be short of potential suitors. Given the situations at AC Milan and Manchester United, the same could apply to Ancelotti too.
