Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Napoli have drawn up a list of targets in the January transfer window.
After defenders Paolo Cannavaro and Gianluca Grava were slapped with six-month bans, signing a new centre-back is a priority for the Azzurri.
Inter’s Matias Silvestre, who should be available at a cut-back price, remains the number one target, but sporting director Riccardo Bigon has got several back-up options as well.
These include Chievo stopper Marco Andreolli, who came through the youth ranks at Inter, and Porto centre-back Rolando, widely tipped to leave the club in January.
Parma duo Gabriel Paletta and Cristian Zaccardo is also being followed, while Napoli are also looking to sign a back-up for star striker Edinson Cavani.
Young Boys forward Raul Bobadilla, who shone against Udinese in Europa League, is monitored, but the Azzurri will only step up their interest in the Argentine forward after securing a defensive reinforcement.
