FC Porto midfielder Fernando seems to be nearing closer to a January switch to Napoli, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
While the Azzurri are also looking at Maxime Gonalons, Nemanja Matic and few other high-profile midfielders, the Brazilian footballer looks like the most realistic target at the moment.
Having watched the player on numerous occasions this season, Napoli officials are confidence he would be a good addition to the squad at Stadio San Paolo, with boss Rafael Benitez sharing their opinion.
Fernando would not occupy a non-EU spot in the squad given that he is in possession of Portuguese passport, and the best thing here is that his contract is due to expire.
Chances are Napoli will face a stiff competition for the player’s signature, but they are hoping to win the chase for the 26-year-old midfielder.
Fernando has spent last six and a half years at Estadio do Dragao and is finally set to embark on a new challenge.
