(GSM) – Napoli captain Paolo Cannavaro is looking to extend his stay with the Stadio San Paolo outfit by signing a new contract.
The 29-year-old, who is the brother of Italian legend Fabio, has a current deal that expires in June 2011 with talks regarding a renewal expected to begin.
“I will this week meet with the Napoli directors and discuss an extension to Paolo’s contract,” agent Gaetano Fedele told calciomercato.it.
“I haven’t had any contact with any other clubs for Cannavaro. Clubs are very hesitant to start negotiations for players who are very close to their teams – as Paolo is.
“He is the club captain and it is our objective to remain in Campania, although anything can happen on the transfer market.
“If we don’t reach an agreement with Napoli over a renewal then we will have to consider our options.”
Cannavaro, brother of Italy legend Fabio, started his career with his hometown outfit of Napoli before joining Parma in 1999.
Now aged 29, he returned to the Azzurri in 2006 and helped them win promotion to Serie A.
