According to a recent report from Corriere dello Sport, Napoli could be set to slide into pole position in the race to sign Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi. The Argentine forward was left out of the squad for their first pre-season game, and is not going to be heading on their tour of the United States. The club’s wife and agent is said to be holding a meeting with their sporting director in an attempt to get the deal over the finish line, as Napoli prepare to put forward an almighty bid in order to lure him to the club.
Juventus, on the other hand, are not prepared to offer more than £35 million in order to secure the services of Icardi, who is certainly a polarising figure in the realms of Italian football. Some believe that his behaviour in recent months has been warranted, whereas others see it as him throwing his toys out of the pram in an attempt to get what he wants.
