A new history has started today in Major League Soccer. Nashville SC have signed their first Designated Player in club’s history, as they set out to join the North American top flight in 2020. The new franchise are getting ready for the 2020 MLS season, in which they will make their debut as the newly formed club and Hany Mukhtar will be a big part of that.
According to The Athletic, Mukhtar will be their first Designated Player – of three possible players they can register as Designated Players – and he will join the club from Danish side Brondby. The 24-year-old is a midfielder and will remain to be part of the Superligaen outfit until the end of 2019. Nashville will play their first official match in club’s history in early March 2020 and there is no need for him to make a move this summer.
Reportedly, Nashville will be paying out a $3m transfer fee for the player, whilst also sending $100k in general allocation money to the Seattle Sounders for Mukhtar’s discovery rights.
