Spanish media outlet Superdeporte has learned that Middlesbrough are having second thoughts about whether to exercise the purchase clause for striker Alvaro Negredo.
Boro signed the 31-year-old on a season-long loan with an option to buy for €8 million last summer, but they haven’t exactly been impressed with his performances.
Negredo only managed 6 goals in 25 Premier League outings and with Middlesbrough still in the relegation zone, his future at the club is clearly in doubt.
Meanwhile, Valencia chiefs hope that Boro will ultimately decide to activate the buy-out clause as they could really use the cash to improve the club’s gloomy financial situation.
Alvaro Negredo spent the majority of his career in Spain, representing Real Madrid, Almeria, Sevilla and Valencia, bagging 113 La Liga goals.
Meanwhile, his stints with Man City and Middlesbrough didn’t prove as successful, although he has 15 Premier League goals to his name.
