Portuguese daily A Bola has learned that Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic could be leaving Benfica before the summer transfer window is over.
The Eagles officials earlier admitted they might not be able to hold on to their prized asset, but there have been no new developments regarding the player’s exit until recently.
However, the mere fact Benfica are set to complete the signing of defensive midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa from Olympiakos is enough to suggest they are set to cash in on Matic.
A Bola claims that Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are leading the chase for the 25-year-old, while Real Madrid could also reignite their interest despite signing Asier Illarramendi.
Namely, with Xabi Alonso out until November, los Blancos may decide to enter the market for another central midfielder.
Nemanja Matic has largely impressed since joining the club from Chelsea two years back, and is widely considered as one of Europe’s best holding midfielder.
